Why Scholarships & Bursaries?

Student support is a priority area of focus for King's.

Two main reasons exist for this decision:

  • Tuition rates are frozen, but Nova Scotia still has among the highest tuition rates in the country. For those from more modest backgrounds, the costs are prohibitive because student support is largely in the form of loans, not outright grants. Bursaries are an important way to help students with financial need offset the shortfall between living expenses and maximum Canada Student Loans.
  • Scholarships help us be more competitive with other top-tier universities. Some students will chose to attend a school based on the recognition received for their academic performance. The interactive nature of the programs offered at King’s are contingent on more than having qualified faculty; they require strong student participation. King’s needs to be able to recognize academic achievement with financial incentives in order to attract and retain the best students, enhancing the overall experience of King’s for everyone.

Financial inability should not be a barrier to qualified students choosing King’s, nor should our inability to offer scholarships to top performers be a barrier to attracting the best students to King’s.

Directing your gift to bursaries and scholarships will be greatly appreciated by all of us, and especially by our students.

Support King’s.
