The mutual relation of political power to power of the natural world has been a feature of the history of science since at least the 16th century, as it has also been a feature of the rise of the modern state and of its current redefinition under the demands of the global economy. This class considers the history of changes and continuities in that mutual relation from the Renaissance to the present.
