The President of Alexandra Hall and the Chair of Bays are student representatives elected by resident students from the preceding year. They serve as members of the Students’ Union Council and represent the views and concerns of resident students to both the KSU and university administration. They also take an active role in helping to organize residence activities and events, and work with the Dons to promote a safe and supportive environment for all. You can contact them through the front desk of Alexandra Hall.

Approximately 50 upper-year students are employed by the university to conduct rounds of the campus and encourage residents to uphold our community standards. They are on shift throughout the week during the evening and late night hours, and on weekends. They respond to everything from noise complaints to general emergencies, and can contact the on-call residence staff at any time to assist.
The King’s Residence Leadership Program encourages returning students to live on campus, while providing a forum for their active leadership and participation in residence and campus events. Participants in this program receive a substantial credit towards their residence fees and access to a programming budget.
Students in the program work with other residents and the residence staff to create and facilitate residence programs based on a personal area of interest, such as literature, science, athletics and music. They also help to support other student initiatives on campus and provide overall peer-mentorship within our residential community. Participants are chosen by committee in March for the following academic year.
Some recent KRLP programming initiatives have included an Eastern Philosophy Study Group, in which papers were presented by local Halifax academics on Confucianism and Buddhism; the X-treme Athletics Club, which took students surfing, sailing, mountain biking, rock climbing and adventure racing; and the King’s Concert Collective, which brought together over 100 student musicians for weekly jamborees, music workshops on rhythm and recording, and helped students air their talent on CKDU (88.1 FM), Dalhousie’s own radio station.
