Residence Guidelines and Policies

Community Standards

Everyone—students, faculty, and staff members—has a role to play in making the King’s campus a positive experience for all. The Dean’s Office has a responsibility to the King’s community to respond if students disregard the College Code of Conduct, the General Regulations and/or the Residence Guidelines.

All residents are responsible for fully informing themselves of the residence rules and policies, which are provided below. In general, if you are considerate of the people with whom you live, and are aware of your actions, you will have no shortage of good times.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to speak with your don or the Dean.

Residence Policies

The following are some of our frequently-cited policies which many find helpful. For a full list of the residence polices, please consult the Academic Calendar.

Smoking

All King’s residence buildings are non-smoking. Please show consideration for others: if you do wish to smoke, please do so outside in the Quad, well away from doors and windows. Smoking is not permitted on the front steps of Alexandra Hall at any time, nor on the steps of the A&A Building during business hours. Smoking receptacles are provided near the base of the steps leading to the Library, for your convenience.

Guests

We love meeting new people, but guests are permitted a maximum stay of 72 hours (single visit, not cumulative). Any longer-term or frequent guests should be discussed with your don. Remember to communicate with your roommate about your guests. Students are reminded that they remain responsible for the conduct of their guests.

Theft

Thefts are very few at King’s, but on occasion they do occur. We encourage students to ensure their belongings are covered under their parents’/guardians’ household insurance policies. Remember to lock your doors and windows when leaving your room, and don’t leave your belongings unattended. King’s assumes no liability for personal property in the event of theft or damage.

Pets

Unfortunately, life in King’s residence really isn’t conducive for pets. Students are not allowed to have pets in residence. You are permitted small fish bowls, but remember to make arrangements for your fish over the December holiday!

Parking

Due to limited parking spaces, we are unable to offer parking to resident students. If you bring your car, you will be responsible for finding alternate parking off campus. But you won’t need your car, anyway: King’s is very centrally located, and most places off-campus are located within easy walking distance.
